NFLE - The Road to Sucess

Well done to all the guys who took part in the week long NFLE camp. All of our players stepped up and gave it their best. Especially well done to Daniel who managed to impress the coaches so much that he has been offered a trial for the NFLE for which we are very proud and back him 100%. Well done also to coach cliff who gave his time to attend the camp to help with coaching and instruction. It may have only been for a week but we have managed to gain some invaluable skills from it as well as a taste for kitted football.

New Coaching on the 'O'
The Monachs are proud to announce the arrival of our new offensive coordinator, Roman Von Der Goltz. Roman has a 10 year playing history in semi-professional American football and brings with him a wealth of knowledge to our team.

2nd July 2006- BYAFA Festival of Football III
As new guys on the block, we were excited, yet a little anxious when we arrived at the BYAFA Festival of Football III to play our first games since training commenced 12 weeks ago in April 2006.
We were scheduled to play the first game of the day against fellow newbies, The Chester Romans. It was a great first game, but unfortunately left our running back, Dominic Farrell, injured and unable to compete in the rest of the tournament after a tackle on the side-line. The final score 7-32 to The Monarchs.
Our second game of the tournament was against all girl side, The Woodham Warriors B Team. This was an interesting game, based more on strategy than speed, and we managed to end the game with a score of 6-39 to The Monarchs.
Our third game saw us battling for a place in the final, against experienced team The Nottingham Caesars. This was a fast paced, exciting, action-packed game with the score neck and neck almost throughout until the final 4 seconds when the winning touchdown was scored by The Monarchs making the score 31-33.
Tired, exhausted, and cheered on by our supporters, we chose to play the seasoned Woodham Warriors A Team for the tournament title. Despite scoring twice, including a 55 yard touchdown thrown by Adam Grindrod to his brother David in the back of the end zone, the final score was 40-14 to worthy tournament winners The Woodham Warriors A. Which left us as runners up for the youth flag tournament.
After the games we gathered for the prize giving ceremony. Dominic Farrell was named MVP for our first match against The Romans. We then made BYAFA history twice, by having our Head coach, Jay Wood-Stoddard named as MVP for our game against The Caesars followed by The Cinque-Port Monarchs as a team being awarded the MVP shield for the final. A league representative confirmed that these were both BYAFA firsts as they had never heard of a coach or team being rewarded with an MVP honour as this is usually given to an individual for an exceptional performance.
